From my experience I will say that contact lenses do hurt. Maybe not all the time but every once in a while it does. Any time your eyes get dry that's when your contact lenses may become painful or very irritated.
I started wearing contacts back when I was in middle school. I was tired of wearing my glasses because I didn't like how I looked in them. I was often teased because my glasses were so thick. Everyone assumed that I was nerdy and no girls liked me.
Also, when I was younger I was very athletic. I liked playing physical sports like basketball, football, and karate. When you play sports you can't wear glasses without them breaking, on many occasions that's happened to me.
When I started wearing contacts I wore the soft lenses. Now I wear hard lenses.
Soft contact lenses were comfortable most of the time. There were moments when I forgot I was wearing them. When soft contacts get dry its a different story. Soft contacts feel good but are very painful when your eyes get dry. Soft contacts are delicate and will tear if you're not careful.
Hard contact lenses are very painful when you first start wearing them. Its almost unbearable. Over time the pain felt less and less until it started to feel decent.
I still wear hard contacts but I'll be glad when I won't have to.
